On the 12th of September, SAGITTARIUS experts joined the first Annual Cluster Meeting of the EU Cancer Mission “Diagnosis and Treatment” Cluster, a network that brings together 12 projects funded by the Horizon Europe program that synergistically contribute to the EU Cancer Mission objective of improving tumour diagnosis and treatment and cancer patients’ quality of life during and beyond their cancer treatment. The meeting, which took place at one of the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology’s venues in Barcelona, had two main objectives - aligning each network member about other projects’ progress and discussing cross-project transversal aspects.
The “Diagnosis and Treatment” Cluster represents a great opportunity to integrate and coordinate strategies to find and quickly implement pragmatic solutions to help cancer patients. The 12 Cluster’s projects — Care 1, De-Escalate, Impact-AML, IMPORTANT, InTreALL, Legato, Liveration, PragmaTIL, PRIME-ROSE, SalvOvar, SAGITTARIUS, and Strexit2 — are organised in working groups within the Cluster, which address relevant transversal topics such as Data Management, Dissemination and Communication of Results, Research and Innovation, Citizen Engagement, and Addressing Inequalities.
The first Annual Cluster Meeting
The meeting was opened by welcoming speeches by Stephane Lejeune, Head, International Affairs and Policies at the EORTC and coordinator of the DE-ESCALATE project, and Alejandro Piris, Head of the Scientific Coordination/Management Area at Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO). Subsequently, Marianne da Silva from the European Health and Digital Executive Agency illustrated the European Commission’s expectations for the Cluster.
The second part of the assembly was focused on an update on projects’ advancements and strategies. Each project representative briefly provided an overview of their progress, future steps, and strategic objectives.
The last session was a chance to discuss and find common solutions to common challenges, and it involved all Cluster working groups.
Within the “Diagnosis and Treatment” Cluster, SAGITTARIUS will support in managing the Dissemination and Communication of Results and the Citizen Engagement working groups. Also, SAGITTARIUS is significantly contributing to addressing Data Management issues within the Cluster.
