SAGITTARIUS showcased by the EU Science & Innovation
SAGITTARIUS project was featured in the EU Cancer Mission video series on EU Science & Innovation, the European Commission’s official channel providing the latest updates on EU policies, research breakthroughs, and Horizon Europe-funded projects. The EU Cancer Mission, one of the flagship Missions under the Horizon Europe programme, aims to improve the lives of over 3 million people by 2030 through more effective prevention, early detection, and personalised treatment strategies. As part of its communication campaign, the Mission showcases key EU‑funded initiatives which are accelerating innovation in oncology. “SAGITTARIUS is supporting the European Cancer Mission goals by creating a model of post-surgical care that is more precise, less toxic and more sustainable” explained Dr Silvia Marsoni (IFOM Precision Oncology Unit, Milan), Scientific Coordinator of the SAGITTARIUS project. By integrating ctDNA analysis and advanced molecular profiling, SAGITTARIUS seeks to personalise post-surgery high-risk stage II and stage III colon cancer care and better identify which patients are most likely to benefit from specific treatments, thus reducing overtreatment while improving outcomes. “If our results will confirm the promise that we are already seeing, this could become a standard practice for high-risk colon cancer patients throughout Europe”, added Dr Marsoni. The SAGITTARIUS clinical trial has started and recruitment is ongoing.
